How it works

Five steps, most of them on your phone, none of them at a rental counter.

The process

  1. Ask your service advisor

While your car is being written up for repair, tell your advisor you need something to drive. They check whether the Clearline car is free for your dates.

  2. Open the link they send you

You get a text or email with a secure link. It is specific to you and it expires, so open it when you have a few minutes rather than saving it for later.

  3. Complete everything on your phone

You enter your driver's licence details, your insurance information, and a payment method. Payment is handled by Stripe; Clearline never sees your full card number.

  4. Pick up the keys

If everything checks out, the keys are waiting for you at 13170 Pond Springs Road. Your service advisor will tell you exactly where to collect them.

  5. Bring it back when your car is ready

Return the car to the same place, at the same time you collect your own. Your rental ends when you hand the keys back.

Questions

Why can I not just book online?

Clearline is new and has one car. Rather than let people reserve a vehicle that may already be out, availability is checked by a person before a link is sent. Public online booking is planned, but it does not exist today and we would rather say so than take a reservation we cannot honour.

How long is the link valid?

It expires, which is what keeps your licence and payment details from sitting in an inbox indefinitely. If yours has lapsed, your service advisor can issue a new one.

What do I need to have ready?

A valid driver's licence, proof of your own auto insurance, and a credit card in the same name.

What if I do not qualify?

Not everyone will, and you will be told before any money is taken. Your service advisor can then talk through other options for getting around while your car is in the shop.

Is Clearline part of the repair shop?

No. Clearline is an independent car rental company. The shop repairing your car and Clearline are separately owned businesses, and your rental is a separate agreement from your repair order. Declining one has no bearing on the other.

Can I rent if my car is being repaired somewhere else?

Only if that shop is a participating partner. Clearline is actively interested in working with additional repair shops in the Austin area — if you run one, call (512) 649-7171.
